Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)

The Step-Back clinic uses the Chromolite Intense Pulsed light system made by Chromogenex, Llanielli, Wales. IPL’s are not lasers but are used for many of the same indications. They emit light as a broad band of wavelengths which can then be filtered to suit the clinical requirement. The Chromolite produces a band of red and yellow light which the manufacturers call “Smartlite” technology.

Chromolite is a multi-function IPL system which can be used for Hair Removal and Photo Rejuvenation.

Hair Removal. Red light is absorbed into the melanin pigment in the hair and this destroys the bulb or root. Yellow light is absorbed by the blood vessels to the hair follicle which are destroyed. Thus Chromolite tackles hair growth in two ways. The hair is vaporised allowing the patient to leave hair free.

Photo rejuvenation. This is a treatment applied to the skin, usually the face or hands to improve the overall appearance. Chromolite can achieve improved skin texture and increased collagen formation as well as bleaching areas of hyperpigmentation (brown spots). It can shrink blood vessels eradicating any redness and restore even skin tone.
